In the second quarter of 2023, Portugal’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% from 7.2% in the preceding quarter. The number of individuals without employment decreased by 55.8 thousand, totaling 380.3 thousand, while the employed population saw a rise of 54.7 thousand, reaching 4,979.4 thousand. The youth unemployment rate, which gauges job seekers aged 16 to 24, declined to 17.2% from 19.6% in the previous quarter. Comparatively, one year earlier, the unemployment rate stood lower at 5.7%.
